The rates of real estate agents have increased by 10 percent this year. Real estate agents charged an average of 4,000 euros for selling a house. That is 375 euros more than last year. This is evident from the research by the website Mijn Verkoopmakelaar. The real estate agent comparator conducted research into the rates of real estate agents in 3,000 offers to future sellers.

Corona measures for real estate agents

The housing market seems to be hardly affected by the Coronavirus crisis, according to research by ING, NVM, and Calcasa. However, the measures do have an impact on how real estate agents are now operating. Due to the restrictions, real estate agents can no longer host many viewers at once through an open house. As a result, real estate agents spend more time guiding one-on-one viewings.

    Rising house prices

Whether the price increase can solely be explained by this extra workload is doubted by Antoine Steenkamer, founder of Mijn Verkoopmakelaar. ‘The higher rates can also partly be explained by the rising house prices,’ according to Steenkamer. ‘Proportionally, real estate agents ask for the same percentage of the sales proceeds as last year, allowing them to benefit from the rising house prices.’ On average, the fee for a real estate agent corresponds to 1.3% of the sales proceeds. This is similar to the percentage in 2019.

Most expensive real estate agents in Utrecht

The rates of real estate agents vary significantly by city. For example, Utrecht is the most expensive city of the four major cities to sell a house. Real estate agents in Utrecht charge an average of 4,900 euros for their services. The Hague emerges as the cheapest city among the big four, with an average rate of 3,300 euros. Of the smaller places studied, Hoorn is the most expensive place to sell your house. The average rate of a real estate agent there is 5,600 euros, or 1.6% of the sales proceeds.
