    Types of real estate agents

    Real estate agents in the Netherlands may or may not be affiliated with a professional association. Most agents are members of NVM, VBO, or VastgoedPRO. A small portion operate independently, without affiliation.

    The NVM is the leading association for real estate agents in the Netherlands, with about 4,400 members, followed by VBO with around 1,100 members. VastgoedPro is a professional organization with approximately 800 members.

    Affiliated agents must meet various quality standards, including:

    • Adherence to ethical guidelines
    • Holding a specific real estate diploma (SVMNIVO diploma)

    Starting an NVM agency involves a more extensive procedure than with VBO and VastgoedPro. Therefore, you often pay somewhat more for the services of an NVM agency compared to non-NVM agents.

    Hoogland & Amersfoort

    Hoogland used to be an independent municipality. This changed in 1967. It was then decided that Amersfoort would have a growth function. This meant that Amersfoort would grow at the expense of surrounding municipalities. 

    The Hooglanders absolutely disagreed with this and resisted the looming advance of their big neighbor Amersfoort from the outset. With protests and demonstrations under the motto “Hands Off Hoogland!” action was taken for an independent Hoogland.

    Unfortunately for the Hooglanders, all these efforts were in vain, because on January 1, 1974, the municipality was indeed divided and became part of the municipality of Amersfoort.

    Living in Hoogland

    Because of this history, Hoogland has its own uniqueness. It is also referred to as a village. There is the largest carnival parade north of the rivers every year, and there is an annual fair. 

    This makes Hoogland a fun place to live, close to the city. It has all the functions of a large city nearby, but a very strong identity and community feeling. A village in a city, so to speak.
